Idempotents in the semigroup of quasivarieties of torsion-free groups (Q752847)

It is well known that the set of all quasivarieties of groups is a semigroup under the Mal'cev multiplication [\textit{A. I. Mal'cev}, Sib. Mat. Zh. 8, 346-365 (1967; Zbl 0228.08007)] and the set of all idempotents of this semigroup has continuum cardinality [\textit{L. M. Martynov}, Mat. Sb., Nov. Ser. 90, 235-245 (1973; Zbl 0281.20054)]. In this work the question about the cardinality of the set of idempotent quasivarieties of torsion-free groups is studied. It is proved that this set has continuum cardinality. This fact is obtained as a consequence of the strongest statement: the set of all idempotent quasivarieties of torsion-free RN-groups which have an independent basis of quasi- identities in the class of all groups has continuum cardinality.
