This paper deals with some special cases of questions, raised by R. Hartshorne in his book on ample subvarieties. The first result shows that (a suitable multiple of) the zero section of an ample rank-2 bundle on a compact curve moves and fills out the total space of the vector bundle. In this connection a very nice result has been obtained by \textit{F. Campana} and \textit{H. Flenner} [Math. Ann. 287, 571-575 (1990)]. The second problem of Hartshorne concerned the intersection of subvarieties X, Y of a fixed projective variety Z (always smooth here) where the normal bundles of X and Y are ample. The authors consider the case of a \({\mathbb{P}}^ 2\)-bundle Z over a complex surface S and replace ``ample'' by ``Griffiths-positive'' which seems to be a stronger notion. The basic idea, as usual, is to use a moving lemma which follows here essentially from the work of D. Barlet. Naturally, the geometry of Z as a \({\mathbb{P}}^ 2\)-bundle plays a crucial role. In order to attack the general problem, as posed by Hartshorne, certainly some news ideas and methods have to be discovered.
