In Section 0, the relevant properties of convex sets and spaces of measures are reviewed. The barycenter map as well as its fundamental properties are given. We deal here with arbitrary locally compact topological groups. In Section 1 the universal pointed flow of a locally compact topological group is developed as well as some of its algebraic structure. Here I follow \textit{S. Glasner} [Proximal flows (Lect. Notes Math. 517, 1976; Zbl 0322.54017)] in producing the universal pointed flow. In Section 2 a measure calculus is developed as well as some of its algebraic structure. We prove the existence of the Poisson boundary at the end of the section using this calculus. Here I have been strongly influenced by Glasner's exposition in [op. cit.]. In Section 3 we generalize the discussion in Section 2 to prove the existence of partial boundaries for certain linear functionals on sub- algebras of \(C(\beta T)\), where \(\beta T\) is the Stone-Čech compactification of a discrete group T. In Section 4 we apply the constructions in Sections 2 and 3 to abelian groups to prove the Choquet-Deny theorem as well as to prove that there exist idempotent measures on P which do not correspond to boundaries of measures on (T,\({\mathcal T})\). We prove several results about the supports of measures and introduce the notion of an almost minimal measure. We end with results on the minimal ideals of \(M(P)\) being irreducible affine flows for the group \((T,{\mathcal T})\).
