By analyzing \textit{Mei Zhen}'s approach to singular nonlinear equations [ibid. 41, No.1/2, 87-96 (1989; Zbl 0689.65037)] it is set forth for what kind of algorithm quadratic convergence can be proved in a relatively easy manner. Thus, Mei Zhen's convergence result is extended. In addition, a relation to the approach of the author [ibid. 41, No.1/2, 107-122 (1989; Zbl 0662.65044)] is revealed.
