The paper is concerned with improving of the join operation performances in the context of a distributed database management system. It is known that performing semijoins of the two relations involved could result in dramatic improvement of the time needed by the join operation. The authors made a new step forward by introducing a new kind of semijoin, the so-called ``domain-specific semijoin''. This operation speed up the pre-processing of the relations using the semantic information associated with each relation. Two modes of executing the semijoin are discussed: local and remote. Unfortunately, the authors don't consider other results published in the literature. For example, they don't refer any hardware solution to this problem, although there are a lot of relevant papers in the field (see Dewitt, Richter etc.).
