On a maximum problem governing the nonlinear stability of rotating Bénard problem (Q753575)

The authors prove the existence of a maximum of a variational problem which is closely related to questions of nonlinear stability in the rotating Bénard problem. A theorem describing this relationship is cited. The proof of the existence of the maximum is accomplished by means of Fourier expansion methods and the analytical expression of the maximum is given. The applicability of the methods to the magnetic Bénard problem is outlined.
