Let G be a complex semisimple Lie algebra, H a Cartan subalgebra, \(\Delta\) the root system, \(\pi =\{\alpha_ 1,...,\alpha_ n\}\) simple roots, S a subset of \(\Delta\). The authors define the Harish-Chandra S- homomorphism and S-primitive element of an irreducible representation. If \(S=\pi\) then the classical objects are obtained. There is a one-to-one correspondence between Harish-Chandra S-homomorphisms and elements of \(W/W_ S\) where W \((W_ S)\) is the Weil group of \(\Delta\) (of \(\Delta_ S)\). The main result is the following. Each G-module generated by an S-primitive element admits a composition series if \(G\neq E_ 7,E_ 8\).
