Several classical and a few new results are presented in which multilinear algebra has proven to be an effective tool. The contents are: Weyl's inequalities, the Hadamard product, mappings on tensor spaces, strongly nonsingular matrices, the numerical range, and linear preservers. It is intended to discuss a selection of a few typical results on the subject. Moreover, the choice of results is intended to call the reader's attention to the broad range of applications of the subject. The bibliography (81 items) for this paper largely consists of books that are entirely or partly devoted to a direct exposition of the subject; most contain significant applications of multilinear algebra to standard problems in linear algebra.
