The authors give sufficient conditions for any solution x(t) of the equation \([g(t,x)x']'+q(t)f(x)=r(t),\) where q(t) is allowed to oscillate either to satisfy \(\liminf_{t\to \infty}| x(t)| =0\) or to be oscillatory. Results which give sufficient conditions for all solutions to be oscillatory are given when \(r(t)=0\). Oscillation of q(t) together with the condition \(g(t,x)=a(t)\psi (x)\), \(\psi (x)>0\) for \(x\neq 0\), gives results which are different from those previously obtained. Examples and comparisons of results of the authors with previously known results are also given.
