Convergence and divergence of limit periodic continued fractions \(K(a_ n/1)\) are studied in the paper. If \(a_ n\to -1/4\) along a ray different from (-\(\infty,-1/4)\), then it is known that \(K(a_ n/1)\) converges [cf. Theorem 4.42 in \textit{W. B. Jones} and \textit{W. J. Thron}, Continued fractions, Analytic theory and applications (1980; Zbl 0445.30003)]. Estimates on the approach of \(a_ n\) to -1/4, which ensure convergence or divergence of \(K(a_ n/1)\) have been studied earlier [see for example part II of this series by \textit{L. Jacobsen}, Lect. Notes Math. 1199, 48- 58 (1986; Zbl 0594.40002)]. The authors obtain higher order estimates on the approach of \(a_ n\) to -1/4 which distinguish between convergence and divergence of \(K(a_ n/1).\) \{For part I of this series cf. \textit{L. Jacobsen} and \textit{A. Magnus}, Lect. Notes Math. 1105, 243-248 (1984; Zbl 0552.40001).\}
