A topological space is said to be ultraparacompact if it is \(T_ 2\) and every open cover of X is refined by some locally finite clopen cover. The author investigates the relationship between ultraparacompact spaces and three properties which he \(defines.\) (P\({}_ 0) \) A \(T_ 2\) space in which every base has a discrete subfamily covering the \(space.\) (P\({}_ 1) \) A zero-dimensional space such that for any open cover, every base for which the closure of each member is open has a discrete subfamily refining the cover and covering the \(space.\) (P\({}_ 2) \) A zero dimensional \(T_ 2\) space such that for every open cover and any base such that (i) the closure of each member is open and (ii) for any two members \(B_ 1\), \(B_ 2\) of the base such that \(B_ 1\setminus B_ 2\neq \emptyset\), \(B_ 1\setminus B_ 2\) is the union of a discrete family of members of the base, then there exists a discrete refinement of the cover consisting of members of the base.
