The author shows that the flag space of all nontrivial \(p'\)-subgroups of the finite group \(G\) is contractible if and only if \(O_{p'}(G)>1\), under the assumption that \(G\) is \(p\)-constrained. This result is a consequence of a theorem which states that for a \(p\)-constrained group \(G\) one has \(O_{p'}(G)>1\) provided that the Euler characteristic of the flag space of all non-trivial \(p'\)-subgroups of \(G\) is not divisible by the prime \(p\). It is further shown that for a \(p\)-constrained group the complex of all non-trivial \(p'\)-subgroups is contractible if and only if \(\chi(\Delta{\mathfrak U})=1\).
