The authors consider the problem of finding an optimal sequence of moments of time \(t_ 1,...,t_ n,..\). when the system (which has a distribution function F(t) of the life time) should be controlled in order to be renewed. For the case when F(t) has an increasing failure rate with some unknown parameter, the authors suggest a stochastic approximation control plan which is proved to be adaptive. The proof of this assertion goes along the lines of a similar theorem in \textit{M. T. Wasan}, Stochastic approximation (1969; Zbl 0293.62026).
