Monotone iterative techniques have been proved to be effective in the study of nonlinear differential equations with continuous right hand side. In this paper we shall generalize these techniques by replacing iterations with iteratively generated chains. This allows us to drop continuity hypotheses from the right hand side of the equations in question. Existence of maximal and minimal solutions of both initial value problems and periodic boundary value problems are studied. We shall also consider dependence of these solutions on initial and boundary values, as well as on the right hand side of the equations. Examples for both problems in question with discontinuous right hand side are presented.
