The post-buckling behavior of a column made of a material with cubic constitutive equation \(\sigma =E_ 1\epsilon +E_ 2\epsilon^ 3\), is unstable for a range of values of \(E_ 2\). In these cases, the imperfection sensitivity is qualitatively described using catastrophe theory. A numerical method is given to compute the post-buckling deflections.
