The authors consider a general Gauss-Chebyshev quadrature formula, with multiple nodes, introduced earlier by the second author [Matematiche 23, 31-49 (1968; Zbl 0174.472)]: \(\int^{\pi}_{-\pi}f(x)dx=A^ s_ m[f]+R^ s_ m[f]\), where \[ A^ s_ m[f]=(2\pi /m)\cdot \frac{1}{m^{2s}(s!)^ 2}\sum^{m}_{k=1}[\prod^{s}_{j=1}(\frac{d^ 2}{dx^ 2}+j^ 2m^ 2)f(x)]_{x=x_ k}, \] while \(R^ s_ m[f]\) is the corresponding remainder. Here s is a given non-negative integer, f is a real-valued function having an absolutely continuous derivative of order 2s on [-\(\pi\),\(\pi\) ]: \(f\in AC^{2s}[-\pi,\pi]\), while the nodes are given by: \(x_ k=x_ 1+(k-1)\pi /m\) \((k=1,2,...,m)\), with the only restriction on the starting node: \(-\pi <x_ 1<-(m-2)\pi /m.\) Note that in the special case \(s=0\) the above differential operator of order 2s should be replaced by 1 and we have \(A^ 0_ m[f]=(2\pi /m)\sum^{m}_{k=1}f(x_ k).\) By using a result due to \textit{A. Ghizzetti} [Rend. Semin. Mat. Univ. Padova 26, 201-222 (1956; Zbl 0073.280)], concerning the convergence of linear quadrature procedures, one proves the following principal result: If f is a \(2\pi\)-periodic function belonging to the class \(C^{2s}(R)\) (s\(\geq 1)\), then the order of magnitude of the remainder is given by: \(R^ s_ m[f]=o(m^{-2s})\) (m\(\to \infty)\). This result is important since it indicates the dependence of the rate of convergence of the trigonometric hyper-Gaussian functional \(A^ s_ m[f]\) on the order of multiplicity of the nodes.
