The article discussed [ibid. 44, 119-125 (1984; Zbl 0526.65009)] introduces inverse distance weighting (IDW) as an interpolation technique for scattered measurements. IDW has been extensively researched and tested and its limitations widely published. In the present context, however, it is considered desirable to augment that contribution by enumerating the drawbacks of the method. Other aspects of the article which require particular clarification are also noted.
