For elastic-plastic composites at finite strains and rotations, Hill's self-consistent method is used to estimate the overall instantaneous elastic-plastic moduli. Results are applied to a porous metal whose matrix constitutive relations are characterized by a generalized \(J_ 2\) plastiticity model. As an illustration, uniaxial deformation of a porous elastic-plastic solid is considered, and conditions under which the overall uniform deformation becomes unstable by localized deformations, are examined.
