Let \(P_ n(z)=\prod^{n}_{i=1}(z-z_ i)\) and \(S_ m(z)=\sum^{n}_{i=1}(z_ i-z)^ m\) \(S_ m(z)\) can be expressed as an m-th order determinant involving the derivatives of \(P_ n(z)\). The author generalizes the obvious fact that any straight line through the zero of \(S_ 1(z)\) (the centroid of the \(z_ i)\) must split up the \(z_ i\) to a statement about how the \(z_ i\) are located relative to m ''equiangular'' lines through a zero of \(S_ m(z)\). He goes on to show that if all the zeros of \(P_ n(z)\) are in a finite domain B then the zeros of \(S_ m(z)\) are in the domain \(B_ m\) bounded by the curve from which B subtends an angle \(\pi\) /m. Using Rouché's theorem he shows that if B is open and if the polynomial \(p_ n\) satisfies \(| p_ n(z)| \leq | P_ n(z)|\) on the boundary of B, then the corresponding power sums satisfy \(| s_ n(z)| \leq | S_ n(z)|\) throughout \(B_ m\). The paper contains some misprints.
