The regularity and decay properties of Green's functions for a class of difference Laplace operators (covariant Laplace operators with external gauge fields) are studied. These difference operators are lattice (here lattice means the set \(\{\eta {\mathbb{Z}}^ d\subset {\mathbb{R}}^ d\})\) approximations to second order elliptic differential operators so one expects their Green's functions to have similar regularity and decay properties. The content of the paper is that this indeed is the case. One of the main features of the bounds is that they are uniform in the lattice spacing \(\eta\). The technical results of this paper were used by the same author [ibid. 88, 411-445 (1983) and references therein] to control the \((Higgs)_{2,3}\) quantum field models.
