Optimal control with the use of moving and distributed signal sources is considered on the example of plants described by the heat equation. Necessary optimality conditions for such systems are obtained by functional analysis methods. It is shown that for problems with a movable control source an optimal process can be in general realized with the aid of sliding modes.
