An internal variable theory of rate-independent plasticity is presented incorporating a combination of classical models of kinematic hardening as well as isotropic hardening. In addition to the yield surface a second ''bounding surface'' has been introduced to accommodate to problems with non-radial loading paths. The behaviour of this model under uniaxial and complex loading has been tested and compared with experimental results and other theoretical predictions.
