The contents of the paper is indexed as follows: 1. Introduction; 2. The memoirs of Volterra from 1895; 3. The memoirs of Peano; 4. The polemic; 5. The last interventions of Volterra on the motion of the Poles; 6. Conclusions. The polemic concerned the modelation for a rotating body with inside acting forces, as well as the integration procedures of the corresponding differential equations. The memoirs were published in Italian journals (mainly in Atti della Accademia delle Scienze Torino 1895/96). It seems that Volterra was right in this dispute with scarce international echo.
