[For part V see ibid. 37, 164-188 (1984; Zbl 0545.05015).] Let D(v) be the maximum number of pairwise disjoint Steiner triple systems of order v. In this last of a series of six papers, the author proves that \(D(v)=v-2\) for all \(v\equiv 1\) or 3 (mod 6) \((v>7)\), except possibly when \(v=141\), 283, 501, 789, 1501, 2365.
