In this paper we describe R-unipotent, L-unipotent, inverse semigroup and group congruences on a regular semigroup S by means of their kernels and hyper-traces. The main result shows that an R-unipotent congruence \(\rho\) on a regular semigroup is completely determined by the pair (htr r, Ker \(\pi)\), where Ker \(\rho\) \(=\{a\in S:\) \(a\rho\in E(S/\rho)\}\) and htr \(\rho\) \(=\rho |_{<E(S)>}\), \(<E(S)>\) being the subsemigroup of S generated by its set of idempotents. We show that, for all a and b in S, (a,b)\(\in \rho\) if and only if, for some a'\(\in V(a)\) and b'\(\in V(b)\), a'b\(\in Ker \rho\) and (aa',bb')\(\in htr \rho\).
