Let (X,A,\(\mu)\) be a measurable space with finite or \(\sigma\)-finite measure \(\mu\), T be a normal contractive operator in \(L_ 2\), \(\sigma\) be the spectrum of T, \(\sigma\) \(\subset K\), \(K=\{z:| z| \leq 1\}\), \(\phi\) (z) be a continuous complex-valued function on \(\sigma\). It is stated under what restrictions on the spectrum of the operator T and the function \(\phi\) the equiconvergence of the averages \(N^{-1}\sum^{N- 1}_{k=0}T^ kf\) and \(N^{-1}\sum^{N-1}_{k=0}(\phi (T))^ kf\) of the operators T and \(\phi\) (T) almost everywhere as \(N\to \infty\) take place. In particular, it is shown that the above stated convergence holds, if \(\sigma\) \(\subset \Sigma\), \(| \phi (z)| \leq 1\), \(z\in \Sigma\), \(\Sigma\) is a closed set, \(\Sigma\) \(\subset K\) and there exist such positive constants \(C_ 1\), \(C_ 2\), A, B and a continuous positive non-decreasing function g(u), \(u\in [0,2]\), \(g(0)=0\), that \(C_ 1g(| 1-z| |)\leq | 1-\phi (z)| \leq C_ 2g(| 1- z|),\) \(z\in \Sigma\) \(Ag(u)\leq g(2u)\leq Bg(u),\) \(u\geq 0\).
