    Let \({\mathfrak H}_ n\) be the Siegel upper half plane of degree \(n\) and denote by \(\iota\) the natural ``diagonal'' embedding \(\iota: \text{Sp}(n,\mathbb R)\times \text{Sp}(n,\mathbb R)\hookrightarrow \text{Sp}(2n,\mathbb R).\) For all \(k\) we introduce a holomorphic differential operator \({\mathfrak D}_ k\), which satisfies the relations \[ {\mathfrak D}_ k(f|_ k\iota (g,id))=({\mathfrak D}_ kf)|_ k\iota (g,id),\quad {\mathfrak D}_ k(f|_ k\iota (id,g))=({\mathfrak D}_ kf)|_ k\iota (id,g) \] for all holomorphic functions \(f\) on \({\mathfrak H}_{2n}\) and all \(g\in \text{Sp}(n,\mathbb R)\); here (as usual) \(f|_ k g\) means \(f((AZ+B)(CZ+D)^{-1})\det (CZ+D)^{-k}\) for \(g=\left( \begin{matrix} A\quad B\\ C\quad D\end{matrix} \right).\) We give two applications of these operators: Application 1: We prove rationality properties for special values of Andrianov's standard zeta function attached to a Siegel eigenform; similar results (under additional restrictions) were previously proved by \textit{M. Harris} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 14, 77--120 (1981; Zbl 0465.10022)] and \textit{J. Sturm} [Duke Math. J. 48, 327--350 (1981; Zbl 0483.10026)]. Application 2: Using essentially the same idea as in part I [Math. Z. 183, 21--46 (1983; Zbl 0497.10020)] a solution of the (generalized) basis problem for Siegel modular forms is given: Let \(m\equiv 0 \bmod 8\), \(m>4n\); then all Siegel cusp forms of degree \(n\) and weight \(k>m/2\) are linear combinations of theta series with suitable harmonic coefficients attached to unimodular positive definite quadratic forms of size \(m\).
