Classification of ternary forms with zero Hessian (Q763526)

The authors consider the natural action of \(\text{SL}_3(\mathbb C)\) on the space \(T_n\) of ternary forms of degree \(n\) in three variables over the field of complex numbers and extends it to the action of \(\text{GL}_3(\mathbb C)\) requesting that the center \(\mathbb C^*\) of \(\text{GL}_3(\mathbb C)\) acts on \(T_n\) by scalar multiplications via the character \(t\mapsto t\). In [\textit{P. V. Bibikov} and \textit{V. V. Lychagin}, ``\(\text{GL}_3(\mathbb C)\)-orbits of rational ternary forms'', Dokl. Math. 84, No. 1, 482--484 (2011); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk 439, No. 3, 295--297 (2011; Zbl 1237.53011)], the classification of \(\text{GL}_3(\mathbb C)\)-orbits of ternary forms in \(T_n\) with nonzero Hessian have been obtained. In the present paper it is extended to ternary forms with zero Hessian, thereby providing the complete classification of \(\text{GL}_3(\mathbb C)\)-orbits in \(T_n\).
