Let \(X\) be a projective manifold of dimension greater than one. The Kuranishi family of \(X\), or with other words the (mini)versal deformation of \(X\), is a maximal deformation of \(X\) in the adequate sense. In certain cases, i.e., when \(\mathrm{Aut}(X)\) is finite, the base space of the Kuranishi family, is also isomorphic to the germ of the moduli space of \(X\) at \(X\). Computing this base space is usually very hard. Obtaining generators of the local ring at \(X\), or equivalently computing the tangent space at \(X\), is the easier part in most cases. However computing the relations between these generators, which are determined by the percise forms of the obstruction maps, can be rather challenging. In this article the author does compute the base space of the Kuranishi family of a product of an abelian variety and a projective space. The method uses the identification of the deformation space of \(X\) with the deformation space of the differential graded Lie algebra (DGLA) given by the Dolbeault resolution of the tangent sheaf of \(X\). In the case of abelian varieties, this DGLA is quasi isomorphic to the finite dimenisonal sub-DGLA given by invariant forms. This makes the deformation functors computable. Notably, the hull of the functors, which is then the base space of the Kuranishi family by the above argument, is the product of an affine space with a commuting variety for a special linear group. Further elaboration on the method yields obstructed irregular canonically polarized surfaces with maximal Albanese dimension as generic hyperplane sections of the above products of abelian varieties and projective spaces.
