The paper under review studies how Fano manifolds (i.e.\ smooth projective varieties for which \({-}K_X\) is ample) are connected to slope (semi)stability. This form of stability is related to the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics, see for instance [\textit{J.\ Ross} and \textit{R.\ Thomas}, ``An obstruction to the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics'', J.\ Differ. Geom.\ 72, No.\ 3, 429--466 (2006; Zbl 1125.53057)]. The results of this paper are a refinement of the results of [\textit{J.-M.\ Hwang, H.\ Kim, Y.\ Lee} and \textit{J.\ Park}, ``Slopes of smooth curves on Fano manifolds'', Bull.\ Lond.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 43, No.\ 5, 827--839 (2011; Zbl 1244.14028)]. The main result is that a smooth polarised Fano \(n\)-fold \((X,-K_X)\), with \(n\geq3\), is \textit{not} slope stable with respect to a smooth curve \(Z\subseteq X\) if and only if the pair \((X,Z)\) is isomorphic to one of the following: \((\mathbb{P}^n,\text{ line in }\mathbb{P}^n)\), \((\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^{n-1},\mathbb{P}^1\times\text{pt})\), \((\text{blowup of }\mathbb{P}^n\text{ along }\mathbb{P}^{n-2},\text{ nontrivial fibre of the blowup})\). The proof uses Seshadri constants and the classification of Fano \(3\)-folds.
