The authors prove the following remarkable result: Let \(\alpha\), \(\beta\) be two nonnegative real parameters such that \(\alpha\neq \beta\) and \(y_{j}\,(j=2,3,\ldots)\) constants given by the formula \[ y_{j}=\frac{(-1)^j}{j}\Big[\alpha^j-\beta^j+(\beta-\alpha)\frac{(\alpha+\beta+1)^j-(\alpha+\beta-1)^j}{2^j}\Big]. \] Then, the following asymptotic expansion formula holds true \[ \frac{\Gamma(x+\alpha)}{\Gamma(x+\beta)}\sim \frac{\exp\big(\sum_{j=2}^{\infty}\frac{\gamma_{j}}{x^{j}}\big)}{\big(x+\frac{\alpha+\beta-1}{2}\big)^{\beta-\alpha}},\quad\text{as}\;\;x\rightarrow \infty, \] where the coefficients \(\gamma_{j}\) can be calculated recursively by the formula \[ \gamma_{j}=\frac{y_{j+1}+\sum_{i=2}^{j-1}(-1)^{i+j+1}\big({j \atop i-1}\big)\gamma_{i}}{\big({j\atop j-1}\big)}, \quad j=2,3,\ldots. \] Some particular cases and applications of the above asymptotic formula are given.
