The authors study the steady state solutions of a phytoplankton nutrient system. The system under consideration was first proposed by Huisman et al. which models the dynamics of a single phytoplankton species whose growth is limited by light and nutrients in a vertical water column. The authors first study the the existence and nonexistence problem of the model system. After analyzing the limiting profiles of the positive solutions as the specific phytoplankton loss rate approaches zero, the authors also show that for small diffusions, the phytoplankton die out regardless of the nutrient supply. The asymptotic profile of the positive solution has been studied when the diffusion coefficient is very large. The results obtained in this work are good.
