Let \((R, \mathfrak{m}, k)\) denote a local Noetherian ring. Let \(I\) be an ideal of \(R\) with \(\mathrm{height}(I)=c\). In recent research there are sufficient conditions when the endomorphism ring of the local cohomology module \(\mathrm{H}^c_I (R)\) is isomorphic to \(R\). In the paper under review it is shown that: (1) If \(R\) is a Gorenstein ring, then the endomorphism ring \(B= \mathrm{Hom}_R (\mathrm{H}^c_I(R), \mathrm{H}^c_I(R))\) is a commutative ring. (2) If \(R\) is a regular local ring containing a field, then \(B\) is a Cohen-Macaulay ring. In addition, it is shown that \(R=B\) if and only if \(\mathrm{dim}_k \mathrm{Ext}^d_R(k,\mathrm{H}^c_I(R))=1\), where \(d=\mathrm{dim}(R/I)\).
