In [\textit{G.Tian}, ``On Calabi's conjecture for complex surfaces with positive first Chern class'', Invent. Math. 101, No. 1, 101--172 (1990; Zbl 0716.32019)] it was proved that a Del Pezzo surface \(M\) admits a Kähler-Einstein metric if and only if the holomorphic vector fields on \(M\) form a reductive Lie algebra. That this is a necessary condition for the existence of a Kähler-Einstein metric was proved by \textit{Y. Matsushima} [``Sur la structure du groupe d'homéomorphismes analytiques d'une certaine variété kaehlérienne'', Nagoya Math. J. 11, 145--150 (1957; Zbl 0091.34803)]. The main step in Tian's proof that this condition is sufficient consists in showing that the set of surfaces that admit a Kähler-Einstein metric is closed in the moduli space of Del Pezzo surfaces obtained by blowing up \(\mathbb{P}^2\) at \(n\) points (for \(5 \leq n \leq 8\)). This part of the proof is very hard. The paper under review contains a very nice and thorough exposition of Tian's proof and in particular a detailed account of this main step.
