Let \(f\) be a diffeomorphism on a compact Riemannian manifold \(M\) and \(\Lambda\) be a Pesin set of \(f\). Denote by Per\(_n(f) = \{x\in M|x = f^{n}(x)\}\) the set of all periodic points with period \(n\). Let \((X, d)\) be a compact metric space with Borel \(\sigma\)-algebra \(B(X)\) and let \(T:X\rightarrow X\) be a continuous map. The authors deal with the measure-theoretic pressure and the topological pressure of \(T\). For \(\phi\in C(X,\mathbf{R})\), by using the exponential growth rate of \(\sum e^{S_n\phi (x)}\) over some periodic orbits for any given continuous function \(\phi\), the authors approximate the pressures on the Pesin set, where \(S_n\phi (x)=\sum_{i=0}^{n-1} \phi (T^{-i}(x))\). The relationship between the exponential growth rate and the pressures on the whole manifold is observed. When \(\mu\) is an ergodic hyperbolic measure, the authors prove that the exponential growth rate coincides with the free energy \(h_{\mu }(f)+\int \phi d\mu\). They prove that the exponential growth rate \(\sum e^{S_n\phi (x)}\) over periodic measures for any given continuous function \(\phi\) equals to the topological pressure when the manifold is two-dimensional. Then, the authors obtain an equality between the exponential growth rate and the topological pressure on \(\omega\)-full measured set \(\widetilde{\Lambda}\). A variational principle for the pressure on Pesin sets is established. Let \(f\) be a \(C^{1}\) diffeomorphism of a compact Riemannian manifold \(M\) with Pesin set \(\Lambda (\alpha ,\beta ,\epsilon)=\underset{k\geq 1}\Lambda _k\) and \(\phi\in C(M)\). In this case, the authors prove that for any decreasing sequence \(\overline{\eta}=\{\eta_k\}\) going to zero, it holds \(P(f|_{\Delta },\phi )=\underset{\mu \in M(\Lambda, \overline{\eta})}{\sup }(h_{\mu }(f)+\int \phi d\mu).\)
