Assume that \(f:[a, b]\rightarrow\mathbb{R}\) is a function such that \begin{align*} &V(f, p_n\uparrow\infty, \phi, [a, b])\\ &:=\sup_n\sup_{\Delta}\left(\sum_{i=1}^{m}|f(t_i)-f(t_{i-1})|^{p_n}:\rho(\Delta)\ge\frac{1}{\phi(n)}\right)^{\frac{1}{p_n}}<\infty \end{align*} where \(p_n\), \(\phi(n)\) are sequences such that \(p_1 \ge 1\), \(p_n\uparrow\infty, n\to\infty\), and \(\phi(1) \ge 1\), \(\phi(n)\uparrow\infty\), \(n\to\infty\), \(\Delta\) is \(a=t_0< t_1 < \dots <t_m=b\) partition of the interval \([a, b]\) and \(\rho(\Delta)=\min_i(t_i-t_{i-1})\). In this case, we say that \(f\in \mathrm{BV}(p_n\uparrow\infty, \phi, [a, b])\) or \(f\) is of generalized bounded variation. With \(\|f\|=|f(a)|+V(f, p_n\uparrow\infty, \phi, [a, b])\), \(\mathrm{BV}(p_n\uparrow\infty, \phi, [a, b])\) becomes a normed space. The authors study some properties of functions in \(\mathrm{BV}(p_n\uparrow\infty, \phi, [a, b])\) and reveal an anomaly. Further, a generalization of absolute continuity of a function is presented and properties of such functions are shown. Approximations by Steklov functions and singular integrals form the last two parts of the paper.
