The paper presents a hybridized weak Galerkin (HWG) finite element scheme for solving the general second-order elliptic problems of the form \[ \begin{array}{rcl} -\nabla\cdot \left(\mathcal{A}\nabla u\right) + \nabla\cdot \left(\mathbf{b} u\right) + cu & = & f \mbox{ in } \Omega, \\ u & = & g \mbox{ on } \partial\Omega, \end{array} \] where \(\Omega\) is a polygonal/polyhedral domain in \(\mathbb{R}^{d} (d=2,3)\), \(\mathcal{A}\) is a symmetric matrix, \(\mathbf{b}=\left(b_{i}(\mathbf{x})\right)_{d\times 1}\in\left[L^{\infty}(\Omega)\right]^{d}\) is a vector-valued function, \(c=c(\mathbf{x})\in L^{\infty}(\Omega)\) is a scalar function on \(\Omega\), \(f\in L^{2}(\Omega)\) is a source term and \(g\in H^{\frac{1}{2}}(\Omega)\) is the boundary condition.\par The HWG finite element scheme is based on the use of a Lagrange multiplier defined on the element boundaries. The authors provide a numerical analysis of the HWG finite element scheme including error and stability estimates. Moreover, a Schur complement formulation is proposed for implementation purposes, which allows a reduction of unknown the resulting system of linear algebraic equations.\par
