The author studies co-Toeplitz operators, a new class of Hilbert space operators, in order to define a co-Toeplitz quantization scheme that is dual to the Toeplitz quantization scheme introduced by the author in the setting of symbols that come from a possibly non-commutative algebra with unit. He starts with a review of the already known theory of Toeplitz quantization in the setting of possibly non-commuting symbols as developed by the author [in: Geometric methods in physics. XXXII workshop, Białowieża, Poland, June 30 -- July 6, 2013. Selected papers. Cham: Birkhäuser/Springer. 57--66 (2014; Zbl 1326.47030)], and presents the co-Toeplitz quantization, which is a usual quantization scheme in the sense that to each symbol the author assigns a densely defined linear operator acting in a fixed Hilbert space. He discusses the role of the co-unit of the co-algebra \(\mathscr{C}\) in co-Toeplitz quantization, shows how that motivates an extension of this quantization scheme using co-symbols in the dual of the co-algebra, and notes that the co-Toeplitz quantization shows a bit of flexibility, let's say, that is not present in Toeplitz quantization. He performs in detail a discussion in what sense the theories of Toeplitz and co-Toeplitz quantizations are duals of each other and concludes that the duality between Toeplitz and co-Toeplitz operators is not as symmetric as one might have expected. Further, he examines the relation between the operator adjoint \((C_{g})^{*}\) of a Toeplitz operator with symbol \(g \in \mathscr{C} \) and the co-Toeplitz operator \(C_{g^{*}}\), introduces the creation and annihilation operators in terms of co-Toeplitz operators, and then defines the canonical commutation relations among these operators in algebraic terms. Thus, he includes Planck's constant \(\hbar\) into the theory as well as the associated \(\hbar\)-deformed canonical commutation relations (CCR) algebras, for which \(\hbar > 0,\) and the classical algebra, for which \(\hbar = 0\) (see [\textit{St. B. Sontz}, Commun. Math. 24, No. 1, 43--69 (2016; Zbl 1369.47037)]). The domain of the co-Toeplitz quantization is then extended as well to a set of co-symbols, which are the linear functionals defined on the co-algebra. He ends by presenting a detailed example of this new quantization scheme based on the quantum group (and hence co-algebra) \(SU_{q}(2)\) as symbol space.
