Originally defined by \textit{E. R. Lorch} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 54, 414--425 (1943; Zbl 0060.27202)], a function \(f:U \to E\) defined on an open subset \(U\) of a commutative, unital, complex Banach algebra \(E\) is said to be {\em Lorch analytic} provided that it has a Lorch derivative at each point of \(U.\) (\(f\) has a Lorch derivative at \(x_0 \in U\) means that there is a point \(f^\prime(x_0) \in E\) such that for any \(\varepsilon > 0,\) it follows that \(\|f(x_0 + h) - f(x_0) - hf^\prime(x_0)\| < \varepsilon\) provided \(h \in E\) is sufficiently small.) The aim of this paper is to describe properties of the algebra of Lorch analytic functions, \(\mathcal H_L(U),\) endowed with a certain topology \(\tau_d.\) For a simply connected domain \(\Omega\) properly contained in \(\mathbb{C},\) the authors specialize to the case \(U = E_\Omega = \{z \in E \ | \ \sigma(z) \subset \Omega \}\). A Cauchy integral type result follows: For any \(f \in \mathcal H(\Omega),\) the associated mapping \(\tilde{f}:E_\Omega \to E\) given by \[\tilde{f}(z) \equiv \frac{1}{2\pi i} \int_\Gamma f(\lambda)(\lambda e - z)^{-1} \,d\lambda\] yields a Lorch analytic function. (Here, \(\Gamma \subset \Omega\) is a closed curve containing \(\sigma(z)\) in its interior.) For \(\Omega\) as above and \(\mathbb{D}\) the complex open unit disc, it is shown that \(E_\Omega\) and \(E_\Delta\) are homeomorphic via an \(L\)-homeomorphism. The paper concludes with an examination of the spectrum (of continuous homomorphisms) on \(\mathcal H_L(E_\Omega).\)
