In the paper under review, the authors introduce the concept of \(S\)-prime ideals in the following way: Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with identity and \(S\subset R\) be a multiplicative subset of \(R.\) Let \(P\) be an ideal of \(R\) disjoint with \(S,\) \(P\) is an \(S\)-prime ideal of \(R\) if there exists an \(s\in S\) such that for all \(a,b\in R,\) if \(ab\in P,\) then \(sa\in P\) or \(sb\in P.\) The authors investigate the properties of \(S\)-prime ideals, they prove that \(P\) is an \(S\)-prime ideal of \(R\) if and only if \((P:s)\) is a prime ideal of \(R\) for some \(s\in S.\) They also study the behaviour of \(S\)-prime ideals under localization, under homomorphism, in factor rings and over \(S\)-Noetherian rings. Note that the definition given here is a special case of that of \(S\)-prime submodules introduced in [\textit{E. Şengelen Sevim} et al., Turk. J. Math. 43, No. 2, 1036--1046 (2019; Zbl 1437.13015)].
