For a given odd natural number \(n>1\), let \(K\) be a pure number field of degree \(n\). In this paper, the author considers the 2-rank \(\rho_ K\) of the ideal class group of \(K\) and intends to estimate \(\rho_ K\) from below. Namely, he deals with \(K={\mathbb Q}(A^{1/n})\), \(A=y^ n+z^ 2\) \((y,z\in\mathbb Z)\) and proves the following theorem with a constructive method: There exist infinitely many pure number fields \(K\) of degree \(n\) whose ideal class group contains an elementary 2-abelian group with rank \(2\Delta_ n\) (i.e. \(\rho_ K\geq 2\Delta_ n\)), where \(\Delta_ n\) is the number of divisors of \(n\) smaller than \(n\).
