In his book ''Espaces Hilbertiens de Fonctions Entieres'', the author has presented a theory of Hilbert spaces whose elements are entire functions which satisfy suitable growth restrictions. Such spaces arise naturally in the theory of the Fourier transformation and the author has used them to study linear transformations in Hilbert space, for example Hilbert- or Volterra-type operators, and eigenfunction expansions associated with formally self-adjoint differential operators. However, he points out in the introduction to the paper under review that it is in general necessary to use vector valued functions (i.e. spaces of functions with values in spaces of operators on finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces). The basics of such a theory are presented in this article, which is based on a series of lectures given at the Weizmann Institute of Science. In an introductory section, the results are summarised in a list of 17 theorems. The second half of the paper is devoted to their proofs.
