For a right G-space X, where G is a discrete group, a simplicial group \(J_ G(X)\) is constructed. There is also a based version generalizing the usual James construction [\textit{I. M. James}, Ann. Math., II. Ser. 62, 170-197 (1955; Zbl 0064.415)]. The homotopy type of the constructions given is studied. It is hoped that there will be applications to Adams- type spectral sequences.
