Hilbert-functions of Cohen-Macaulay standard G-algebras [in the sense of \textit{R. P. Stanley} in Adv. Math. 28, 57-83 (1978; Zbl 0384.13012)] have been completely characterized. A corresponding characterization for Gorenstein standard G-algebras is still missing. Also for graded algebras related to simplicial complexes (''Stanley-Reisner-rings'') a characterization is missing in the Gorenstein case. However, the Hilbert- functions of those Gorenstein-algebras related to boundary-complexes of simplicial convex polytopes are well known. It has been conjectured [\textit{R. P. Stanley}, ''Combinatorics and commutative algebra'', Prog. Math. 41 (Boston 1983)] that the Hilbert-functions of Stanley-Reisner-rings which are Gorenstein behave like those coming from convex polytopes. In this paper this conjecture is supported by the fact that the ''lower-bound- theorem'' for simplicial polytopes can be generalized to Gorenstein algebras which are Stanley-Reisner-rings. For general Gorenstein standard G-algebras the main result describes, roughly speaking, how their Hilbert-functions are asymptotically different from those coming from polytopes. Especially the asymptotic deviation from unimodality is characterized.
