Corner singularities of solutions of elliptic boundary value problems in two and more dimensions have been extensively studied in several papers of V. A. Kondratiev, P. Grisvard and others. In his previous papers written together with \textit{E. Stephan} [Boundary integral equations for mixed boundary value problems in polygonal domains and Galerkin approximation, THD preprint, 593, Darmstadt (1981)] and with \textit{E. Stephan} and \textit{W. L. Wendland} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci., IV. Ser. 10, 197-241 (1983)] the author investigated boundary integral equations on polygonal domains; in the present paper, continuing the investigation, the author studies the algebra of Mellin pseudodifferential operators, containing the operator of double and single layer potentials and the Hilbert transform on a plane curve with corners. Expansions in homogeneous kernels of increasing degree are used to define a lower order symbol via local Mellin transform; the mapping properties in (augmented) Sobolev spaces, including GĂ„rding inequalities and higher regularity, is studied.
