The following interpolation problem for holomorphic mappings is studied: Let E and F be two complex, locally convex spaces, \(\Omega\) an open subset of E and \((z_ n)_{n\in {\mathbb{N}}}\) a sequence of distinct elements of \(\Omega\). Given any sequence \((P_ n)_{n\in {\mathbb{N}}}\) of polynomials from E to F, under what conditions on E, F and \((z_ n)\) does there exist a holomorphic mapping from \(\Omega\) to F whose partial Taylor series up to order \(N(n)\geq \deg P_ n\) at \(z_ n\) is equal to \(P_ n\) for each n? The existence of such mappings is proved when F is a Fréchet space, E has a countable, fundamental system of bounded sets (e.g. if E is the strong dual of a Fréchet space) and with the (obviously necessary) assumption that there exists a holomorphic function g:\(\Omega\to {\mathbb{C}}\) such that \(\lim_{n\to +\infty}| g(z_ n)| =+\infty.\) For constant polynomials (i.e. deg \(P_ n=0\) for all n) results where obtained earlier by \textit{M. Valdivia} [Proc. R. Ir. Acad. Sect. A 80, 173-189 (1980; Zbl 0439.46016)]. We prove that, in general, there is a big difference between interpolating with constant polynomials and polynomials of degree \(\geq 1\) by obtaining necessary conditions on the space E in the case \(\Omega =E\) is a Fréchet space and \(F={\mathbb{C}}\). I.e. there are Fréchet spaces for which interpolation with constant polynomials is possible, but not interpolation with polynomials of degree \(\geq 1\). Combining techniques used by Valdivia with results obtained here we also prove that a holomorphically convex, open subset of a (DFC)-space is the domain of existence of a meromorphic function.
