The double eigenvalue problem \((px')'-sx+\lambda qx+\mu rx=0, x(\alpha)=x(\beta)=x(\gamma)=0\), where \(\alpha<\beta<\gamma\) and \(p>0\) on [\(\alpha\),\(\gamma]\), is studied in the context of the theory of the signature and nullity of an associated quadratic form. An algorithm based on this theory is presented for computing the eigenvalues \(\lambda\) and \(\mu\). It is similar to that given by the authors [Appl. Anal. 12, 47-56 (1981; reviewed above)] for the Sturm-Liouville problem. Numerical results are presented for an example previously studied by \textit{L. Fox, L. Hayes} and \textit{D. F. Mayers} [Topics Numer. Analysis, Proc. Royal Irish Acad. Conf., Dublin 1972, 93-112 (1973; Zbl 0278.65095)].
