Recently, the structure of generalized inverse semigroups admitting special involutions has been studied by \textit{H. E. Scheiblich} [Rocky Mt. J. Math. 12, 205-211 (1982; Zbl 0504.20040)]. On the other hand, the structure of quasi-inverse semigroups has been also clarified by a previous paper of the author [Semigroup Forum 6, 180-188 (1973; Zbl 0255.20040)]. In this paper, it is first shown that every regular band B admitting a special involution is isomorphic to the spined product of a left regular band L and the dual semigroup of L. Further, all the p- systems (hence, special involutions) in B are completely described. Next, the structure of quasi-inverse semigroups with special involution is discussed. Finally the concept of a perfect involution semigroup is introduced, and a necessary and sufficient condition for a quasi-inverse semigroup to be a perfect involution semigroup is established.
