The polynomial sets \(\{Y_ n^{\alpha}(x,k)\}\) and \(\{Z_ n\!^{\alpha}(x;k)\}\), discussed by \textit{J. D. E. Konhauser} [Pac. J. Math. 21, 303-314 (1967; Zbl 0156.074)], are biorthogonal over the interval \((0,\infty)\) with respect to the weight function \(x^{\alpha}e^{-x}\), where \(\alpha>-1\) and k is a positive integer. The object of the present note is to develop a fairly elementary method of proving a general multilinear generating function which, upon suitable specializations, yields a number of interesting results including, for example, a multivariable hypergeometric generating function for the multiple sum: \[ (*)\quad \sum^{\infty}_{n_ 1,...,n_ r=0}(m+n_ 1+...+n_ r)!Y^{\alpha}_{m+n_ 1+...+n_ r}(x;k)\cdots \prod^{r}_{i=1}\{Z^{\beta_ i}_{n_ i}(y_ i;s_ i)u_ i^{n_ i}/(1+\beta_ i)_{s_ in_ i}\}, \] involving the Konhauser biorthogonal polynomials; here, by definition, \(\alpha>-1\); \(\beta_ i>-1\); \(k,s_ i=1,2,3,...\); for all \(i\in \{1,...,r\}\). The main results proven in this paper hold true for such general classes of polynomials as the Srivastava-Singhal polynomials \(G_ n\!^{(\alpha)}(x,h,p,k)\) [\textit{H. M. Srivastava} and \textit{J. P. Singhal}, Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 90, 75-85 (1971; Zbl 0197.341)], and are discussed under Problem 15 (Chapter 9) of a recent book by the author and \textit{H. L. Manocha} [A treatise on generating functions (1984; reviewed above), especially see pp. 500-502].
