The problem of controlling elliptical systems is considered. The target function is a function of maximum, and the set of admissible controls is not convex. Using the reflexive Banach space, in the first part of the work an existence theorem of the problem is proved and an approximation of the solution of the optimal control problem by solving a finite- dimensional problem is formulated. In the second part of the work these general results are applied to the problem of controlling the stress- strain state of a shell of revolution (with strength constraints and for which the stresses or displacements are minimized).
